MEETING OF THE AMES CITY COUNCIL

The Ames City Council meeting is at 5:15 p.m. at City Hall. The regular council meeting agenda includes the following. Note that you can generally click on individual agenda items below to get the full staff report or other explanation.

  • 1. Council Budget Presentations:
    1. Public Art
    2. Arts Funding (COTA).
      The above report lists each art agency and their recommended funding for the upcoming year.
    3. Human Services (ASSET).
      Each ASSET human service agency's recommended funding is detailed in the above report, along with information about how much each funding parter (City, ISU Student Government, Story County, and United Way) contribute.
    4. Outside Funding Requests.
      Groups that aren't human services or art agencies can apply for regular funding through the City's outside funding process. This includes things like the Ames Historical Society, Ames Main Street, and the Hunziker Youth Sports Complex, just to name a few. Again, funding recommendations are listed above.
    5. Other Requests

  • 2. Public Input on Capital Improvements Plan (CIP) and Budget.
    Council heard presentations on the CIP and Budget over the past few weeks, now is the time for public input on those documents. Following public input, Council will make final decisions on these.

  • 3. Final Council Decisions
    1. Decision on General Fund Carryover Funding
    2. Amendments to 2025-2030 CIP
    3. Vote on motion to approve 2025-2030 CIP, as amended
    4. Amendments to FY 2024/25 Adjusted Budget
    5. Vote on motion to approve Adjusted Budget for FY 2024/25, as amended, including interfund transfers
    6. Amendments to proposed FY 2025/26 Budget
    7. Vote on motion to approve proposed budget for FY 2025/26, as amended, including interfund transfers
    8. Motion setting April 8, 2025, as date of final public hearing to adopt a property tax levy for FY 2025/26


Communications to Council: The following items are requests and communications to Council that aren't published on the agenda, so we won't deliberate them substantially.This includes staff reports and communications or requests from constituents and developers. Typically, Council will ask city staff for more information, put the item on a future agenda for deliberation and possible action, or just accept the communication, taking no further action.
